Today, I am sharing with you our review of Seimpi School Of Music where we have been faithfully attending classes for a term. I have enrolled my child in Music for the Intelligent Mind (MIM®) program which was developed for children from 4 months old to 7 years old.
This course has been accredited by the London College of Music Examinations (LCME), part of the University of West London ; the first pre-school programme endorsed outside of the UK. With a carefully planned syallabus, this course guide students to explore the richness and excitement of music through interesting play, activites and musical games. This course also strives to stimulate children’s brain development by incorporating eye and ear training, speed reading , pitch training, concentration training , proper playing techniques and music theory. MIM® provides a seamless transition into music graded studies.
My child has been attending MIM® Encore preparatory course as she does not have any kind of music training before. This is an one hour group music course and parents are encourged to join in the lessons. The course materials are designed to be interactive and enaging for the children. My girl loves working on sticker based workbooks ,no children can resist those adorable stickers.
Below are some activities which are conducted in the class:
1) Skips or Steps
Being able to see steps and skips on the music staff will give the child a wonderfulshort-cut to reading music. Even if the child do not know how to read each note on the staff extremely well, he/she will still do fine following the pattern of steps and skips.
2) Music Note Reading Activities
Using different DIY materials to revise and introduce new notes to the children
3) Ear Training using rhythm sticks and course materials
The teacher will first demonstrate on how to use the sticks by tapping the rhythm. Then get the children to tap and repeat the rhythm indivually that they have heard just now.
At time , there are also activities in the workbook , where the teacher will tap the rhythm and the children will need to find out the answers by pasting the correct stickers or colour in the correct box.
4) 1 to 1 personal guidance
After all the group activities , the teacher will go round the classroom to guide, revise and introduce new music piece to the each child. Children are encourged to practise at home so that they can play the music piece for the teacher during the next class.
Hope you will find this article useful on some of the activities that are conducted in the MIM music class.
