The 3M and its related brands are more often than not associated with producing quality products, meeting the needs and providing solutions to many households and businesses alike. One can simply recall the time when you needed a soap/sponge dish for the kitchen or hooks and sticky strips for that lovely painting of yours, and the brand that pops up in your mind is more often than not, the 3M brand.
Which leads me to this question then, what about its Polarizing Light range? Truth be told, 3M was not the first brand I had in mind when I was sourcing for a table lamp. I was simply ignorant of the fact that 3M produces table lamps, which hence led me to contemplate owning a European brand ‘P’ or Japanese brand ‘M’. Fortunately and very timely for me, an opportunity to own one of 3M’s highly rated Polarizing Light was presented to me around the time I was sourcing for this table lamp. And for the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to ‘stress test’ and put it to really good use.
Besides boasting a slim and modern design, the 3M Polarizing lamp K1610 being reviewed here, also comes equipped with 3M’s very own Polarizing Light Filter that is unique only to them. This light filter is available in all of 3M’s lamps. With 3M’s design and extensive research and development performed, many benefits have been stated but I will focus on a few which are more attractive in my opinion.
The first will certainly be to the stated benefit of reduced direct glare. Based on my personal experiment, the extent of the reduction of direct glare is made possible and easier with its tiltable lamp head and the flexible ‘neck’ of the lamp. Depending on the type of material used for the reading item, there might be certain amount of direct glare. But the flexibility of the ‘neck’ and the tiltable lamp head allows one to adjust the angle in which the light hits the paper. I found thisflexibility very beneficial as it certainly reduced the amount of glare with the correct angle adjustment.
The 3-level brightness function of this lamp stated for study/work, PC work, meetings is also a huge plus point. Having a lamp with differing levels of brightness is practical as it suits the needs of both adults and growing up children. It particularly benefits my child as she is able to perform a wide range of tasks such as reading, writing as well as playing with some of her building blocks on her study table, where the 3M Polarizing lamp K1610 is positioned. All my child has to do is to tap on a single button to switch between the different levels of brightness, to suit the type of activity she is undertaking.
As for me, I found the brightness level for PC work to be easy and less tiring on the eyes especially when other surrounding lights are switched off. Transitioning to darkness is also much easier as compared to conventional lamps and LED light which I was using previously.
The 3M Polarizing lamp K1610 may not be the most ideally priced lamp that you find on the streets. I do however in my personal opinion, think that it is a worthwhile investment for the long-term if you consider the fact that it helps to protect the eyes with 3M’s stated reduced glare technology. This is coupled with the fact that the flexibility of its ‘neck’ and tiltable head provides one with the ability to adjust the lighting to literally any angle that you want the light to shine on!
